The moonwalk is a breakdancing move that became very popular after Michael Jackson performed it on a TV show in 1983. A moonwalk is when you appear to walk in one direction while moving in the opposite one, as if a secret force were pulling you backward. The backward moonwalk (also called backslide) is the most popular and the easiest variation.
Michael Jackson was not the first person to perform this technique. Before him, James Brown popularized a similar move, and the moonwalk had already appeared in France in the early fifties as a pantomimic walking exercise.

Description: Moonwalk

Start the moonwalk with both legs together.

Lift your left heel and stand on the ball of your foot (all your weight on the left leg).

Slide your right foot backward, keeping it flat on the ground.

Then stop the right foot, lift its heel, and start sliding the left foot back.

Keep repeating the motion.

Trainer advice: Moonwalk

Wearing socks makes it easier to learn the moonwalk, because sticky shoes make the sliding motion more difficult.

Try practicing without any arm movements at first.
