Escorpiao - Capoeira Scorpion Kick
The scorpion kick is definitely not the most popular kick in capoeira. There are actually two variations of the scorpion kick. One where you look forward and swing your leg over-head and kick your opponent with the heel (faster, but requires even more
flexibility). And the other one is what's shown here: An over-had kick with both legs from a handstand position. Find more detailed capoeira instruction here, and for more videos, click here.
Execution
- Plant your hands on the ground and then put your head down like if you were doing a normal headstand.
- Then lift your legs with your knees bent.
- Extend you legs over-head, arch your back and kick with both legs.
- To go back, you can push yourself off with one leg like shown in the video.
Advice
- The capoeira scorpion kick is by far not the most effective kick. It is not very fast, and you also can't see your opponent as you execute the kick.
- This kick requires a lot of back flexibility and abdominal strength.
