Broadsword - Wushu ( dao shu )
Broadsword is one of the 4 most popular wushu weapons.
Thats also because
broadsword is a modern-competetive discipline.
The chinese word for broadsword is "DAO". When you talk about
the diszipline,
you say DAO SHU. ( Shu stands for art )
Until 2002 braodsword was practices by both, men and women, but as wushu is
gonna
be an olympic event, broadsword now is only practices by men.

Whoever practices modern broadsword, also does modern staff and whoever does
modern straightsword, also practices modern spear.
Weapon training usually begins after
you know all the basic longfist forms and
the
basic kciking techniques. ( gui ding quan and qi ben gong )

- Since 2002 broadsword is practiced by men. Before broadsword was practices by buly athletes. Staff is also style for buly athletes and therefore practices by everybody who does broadsword.

Trainer advice: Broadsword - Wushu ( dao shu )
- The blade of your broadsword should be reach from your fingertips to your neck.
- Make sure your handle is as heavy as your blade.
(You should be able to balance your broadsword on one finger where the handle goes into the blade)
- Learn the basic movements and the "zu ji dao" at first.
Later try all the jumps you learned without weapon, with a broadsword in you hand into sand.
- Work on your freestyle broadsword form daily.
