Wushu Sidekick

The wushu sidekick ( ce shuai tui ) is a leg technique, in the warm up routine usually practiced after the basic kicks and the sweeps. The sidekick is one of the most important techniques, but it`s still the most popular kick in martial arts. For chinese full contact (Sanda) the "ceshuai" sidekick is an essential technique. Technical description: Wushu Sidekick

  • Stand upright with hands to your sides.
  • Sep forward with your left foot and lift your arms a bit. (lift arms sideways)
  • After your step your hands fall down, cross each other, go straight up, then outside und down again. Left hand crosses over the right hand.
This is a very fast movement. Watch your right hand for a moment when it moves backwards.
  • In the meantime the right foot steps forward and when it touches the floor,
you cross your arms again. Once again, the left hand goes over the right hand.
Bend your arms, so that your forearms are parallel and twitch up your palms.
  • Now you are in a crossed leg position with your forearm together.
Upper body slightly leaned back and view to your left.
Stay in this position for 1 or 2 seconds
  • Lift your left knee and pull out the Leg. At the same time you can twist your right foot a bit clockwise if necessary.
  • The end of the kick has to be held 1 or to seconds.
The Heel has to be the highest and furthest point of your leg and the hip has to be extended over 180 degrees.
It doesn't matter how high you kick, just make sure you kick higher then horizontal.
  • Both arms have to be straightened. The left has to be parallel to the kicking leg with the palm horizontal, and the right arm has to be 30° higher, with the palm vertical.
  • Let your leg go down straight (don't bend), step forward and do the whole thing the other way around. (without step in-between)
