How to do an Obi Otoshi - Judo

An Obi Otoshi (obi otoshi = belt drop) is a judo throw, where you grab your opponents belt with one hand and surround his waist with the other hand. Then you get him out of balance by lifting him 45°. Find more judo throws at judo main.

Description: Obi Otoshi - Judo Belt Drop

  • Grab your opponents belt, so that you are chest to chest.
  • Then the other hand has to pass in front of his abdominals, so that you are back to chest (your back to his chest)
  • Surround his waist.
  • pull him 45 degrees up, so that you can make him fall (Use legs and arms).

Trainer advice: Obi Otoshi - Judo Belt Drop

  • Practice the Obi Otoshi on mats.
  • Don't throw somebody who has no martial arts experiance at all.
