Monkey Style - Wushu

Monkey Style (Hou Quan) is a traditional Wushu style in which the performer imitates the movements and behavior of a monkey or ape. This style incorporates numerous acrobatic techniques and quick, erratic hopping motions. It is considered one of the most visually captivating Wushu styles and is a highlight of many Shaolin demonstrations.

There are several variations of Monkey Style, such as Monkey Staff and Drunken Monkey.

Fun fact: many unconventional and tricky techniques—including eye strikes and other deceptive moves—can be found in Monkey Style.

Trainer Advice:

Techniques from Ditang Quan (Ground Tumbling Fist) are very useful when learning Monkey Style, as they help build the flexibility and agility required.
