Jujitsu X-Guard

The X-Guard is a typical Jujitsu position where you stay on your back and control your opponent with your legs and hands. The Jujitsu X-Guard is also a good base to make your opponent fall, protect yourself from further attacks, or simply gain some time. It is called X-Guard because your legs form an "X" or cross around your opponent.

Description: Jujitsu X-Guard

This description is for an X-Guard where your opponent stands with the left leg forward.

  • Make sure your opponent's left foot is over, not under, your shoulder.
  • Use your right hand to grab your opponent's leg about one inch above their knee. When you do this, your right upper arm should be parallel to their left calf.
  • Keep your left hand free (to do something else).
  • Place your right knee under their left thigh and the ankle of your right foot on the left side of their hip.
  • Put your right instep behind their knee.
  • Press both legs toward your opponent and pull down with your right hand.
