The Wallspin is a cool acrobatic freerunning technique that can be performed by intermediate to advanced parkour or freerunning practitioners. Before attempting the Wallspin, you should be able to do a front flip. You should not be afraid to jump down more than 2 meters and should be in good physical condition.
The dangerous part of this technique is that your legs are overhead for a moment. You need to be able to perform a front flip because losing control while upside down can be very risky. Coordination is extremely important. Additionally, you can injure your elbows if you don’t remove your hands from the wall at the right time, and if you fall before spinning around your legs, injuries can be even worse.
I suggest finding someone who can already do the Wallspin, starting on a wall that is not completely vertical, and using mats for safety. Find more parkour and freerunning tricks on Parkour Main.
Description: Wallspin – Parkour
- Run toward the wall with soft steps. Don’t run too fast.
- For a counter-clockwise (CCW) Wallspin, jump toward the wall off your right leg and swing your arms upward.
- The first part of your body to touch the wall during a CCW Wallspin is your left leg.
- Place your right hand—or both hands at the same time—on the wall. It is very important that your fingers point slightly downward (for CCW, downwards).
- Bring your legs overhead without letting your feet touch the wall. You can only do this if you keep your knees away from the wall. Bend your legs so there is enough space for your feet, and keep your hips away from the wall. Be careful not to lose control or flip over; this is why you should avoid a vertical wall at the beginning.
- Release your right hand first, then your left hand. Push away from the wall and return to an upright position. See the Wallspin illustration or videos for guidance.
- Land as softly as possible.
