Here are some of the Thai expressions used in daily Muay Thai training. Most Muay Thai gyms in Thailand can teach you in English, but being able to say a few words in Thai will make the whole experience more interesting. For basic Muay Thai instructions, check out Muay Thai Main.

Uppercut The English word "uppercut" is also understood in Thailand

Dtee sawk Literally: "Boxing Air" - Box with the wind / air
Sawk chieng To hit / strike with the elbow

Kradot dtae wiang Roundhouse kick to the thighs

Teep Jump kick
Teep dan lang Pecking kick with the ball of the foot
Teep duen son To push with the underside of the foot
Teep drong Foot thrust to the rear
Dtae kao A heel push
Kao lod Pushing with the foot straight forward
Kao drong Knee kick
Dtai kao Low knee
Kao kong Frontal knee kick
Kao loy Knee kick from the side
Choraked faad hang Literally: "kidney knee" - knee kick to the kidneys
Muay plam Over arm knee kick
Ting Jumping knee kick. Literally: "knee jump"
Djab ko Turn Kick, literally: "crocodile thrashes its tail"
Hook A hook. The English word "hook" is also used in Muay Thai
Sawing A swing. Like the English word "swing"
Faad To thrash, wipe or swipe
Chaikrong Floating ribs
Nak muay Thaiboxer
Ao! Jai !Sai! Ready to fight or pay attention

Mongkon Headband worn during the pre-fight ceremony
Kruang Rang Bands worn around the biceps
Wai Kru Part of the pre-fight ceremony. Literally: "Obeisance to teacher / instructor"
Khuen Kru The ceremony in which a teacher accepts a new student

Dontree muay The music played during a Muay Thai match
Wong Band - music playing band
Wong muay The band playing during the match
Gawn Welaa Novice fights held before the main fights. Literally: "before time"
Kru Teacher - instructor
Kru muay Muay Thai teacher or instructor
