Learn how to perform a Sanda (Chinese Kickboxing) front kick. The front kick is one of the most basic Sanda kicks. You should learn this kick before attempting the side kick or the roundhouse kick. In Mandarin Chinese, this kick is called “Dan Ti.” For more Sanda instructions, visit the Sanda main page.
Execution
- Lift your knee while keeping your guard up.
- Extend your leg and strike with the ball of the foot (not the heel).
- Push your hips forward and extend your standing leg when you make contact with your opponent.
- Retract your leg the same way and place your kicking leg back exactly where you started.
Advice
- Practice the Sanda front kick on a heavy bag.
- Always warm up and stretch before practicing any kicks.
- In Muay Thai, the front kick is executed in the same way. However, it is worth noting that the front kick is very popular in Sanda, while in Muay Thai it is rarely practiced.
