Description: Knee - Circular Friction Massage

The person receiving the massage should lie down with the leg fully extended and relaxed. Place one hand on each side of the knee. Cross your thumbs over the kneecap. Your palms should face the knee, fingers should be together, and hands slightly flexed.

Begin massaging the sides of the knee using circular motions. Apply a bit more pressure as you move your hands forward and release pressure as you move back. The movement should come from your entire arm, not just your fingertips. Keep your hands fairly firm. Start just below the kneecap, work your way down to the sides of the knee, then move up toward the lower quadriceps. Return to the starting position and repeat the motion.

Advice: Knee - Circular Friction Massage

  • This is an excellent technique to apply after wushu jumps or plyometric leg exercises.
  • If you plan to use this massage to treat an injury or chronic swelling, and not just as a relaxation method after a workout, it’s recommended that you consult a sports injury specialist before applying it.
