Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best-known type of massage around the world. It serves as the foundation for many other forms of Western massage, including sports massage, deep tissue massage, and aromatherapy.
This technique uses firm but gentle pressure to improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, promote relaxation, and enhance flexibility.
I recommend that all first-time clients begin with a Swedish massage. The main purpose of this massage is relaxation — in fact, some people refer to it as a Swedish/relaxation massage or simply a relaxation massage.
Most massage styles use a combination of similar strokes (movements), but some apply deeper pressure than Swedish massage and/or a higher percentage of strokes that work against each other.

Swedish massage incorporates five basic movements:
The therapist typically uses massage oil or lotion to allow smooth, flowing strokes over the skin.
The client is always professionally draped to maintain proper boundaries and comfort.
Only the area being worked on is uncovered, massaged, and then covered again before moving to the next part of the body.
Before the session, you’ll usually complete a short questionnaire and have a brief discussion with your therapist to determine what type of massage best suits your needs that day.
After the session, a short post-interview may be conducted to discuss any areas of tension the therapist found and to offer recommendations for self-care.
