Windmill - Breakdance Instruction

The Windmill is one of the most fundamental breakdance power moves. Before learning the windmill, you should know the 6-step, basic freezes, and stretch your side splits a little (you don’t need to be able to do a full side split). If you can already do the windmill, mastering it can be very helpful if you want to learn the flair. There are different types of windmills, for example, minimills or slow-motion windmills.

Description: Windmill – Breakdance

Windmills (legs moving to your left side)

  1. Start in a freeze position and perform a scissor movement with your legs so that your right leg passes under your left leg.
  2. The right side of your hips should touch the mats first, but make sure you don’t crash your butt onto the mats.
  3. Rotate more than half a turn on your back while spreading your legs as wide as possible and keeping your feet overhead to maintain a centered windmill.
  4. If your feet stay high enough, you will be able to push yourself back into the initial freeze position.
  5. Repeat the scissor movement and start another windmill.
  6. Practice thousands of windmills until your head feels dizzy… Good luck!
