In this lesson, you will learn how to perform a gymnastic front walkover. Walkovers are usually practiced mostly by girls because they require significant back flexibility. Before attempting the front walkover, you should learn how to go into the bridge from a handstand. Find more gymnastics instructions at Artistic Gymnastics main.
Execution
Stand upright with your arms fully extended and your fingers pointing straight up. Keep your head and upper arms aligned throughout the entire exercise.
Place your hands on the floor as if you were going to perform a gymnastic handstand.
Swing your right leg upward and spread your legs. The left leg should remain on the floor as long as possible. Fully extend both knees and elbows.
When your right leg begins to move downward, push your shoulders back slightly (toward where you came from) and look down at your hands. Don’t raise your head too early.
As soon as your right leg touches the floor, your hands can leave the floor. However, keep looking at your hands and keep your arms close to your ears.
Stand up, exhale, and keep your left leg raised. It would be a good exercise to try to avoid letting your left leg touch the floor again.
At the end, you should be looking approximately 45 degrees upward (not down at the floor).
