Lateral Box Push-Offs

In this lesson, you will learn how to do lateral box push-offs. The lateral box push-off is a plyometric exercise that can help increase your single-leg vertical leap. This exercise is commonly used by long and high jumpers, hurdle runners, and martial artists who perform acrobatic jumps from one leg.

Description: Lateral Box Push-Offs

Start with one foot on the box and the other on the floor. Relax your arms and keep your abs tight throughout the entire exercise. Turn the foot that’s on the box slightly outward (to the right if your right foot is on the box). The box should be just below knee height.

Push yourself up toward the center of the box and bring your legs together. You can swing your arms slightly, but don’t overdo it. Jump off the leg that’s on the box — the leg on the floor should not contribute to the jump.

Jump to the opposite side of the box and land on the other leg. The leg on the box always carries the weight; the other leg should only tap the floor lightly and should not contribute significantly to the jump or landing.
