Neck Side Stretch

Learn how to stretch the sides of your neck (trapezius muscles). Please keep in mind that you should not stretch your neck muscles isometrically or ballistically. It’s not even necessary to pull your head down with one hand, but if you do, make sure not to pull too hard. Neck stretches are important in judo, wrestling, shuai jiao, and combat sports in general.

Execution

  1. Stand upright and look straight forward.
  2. Bend your head down to one side so that the opposite side of your neck is stretched. Do not look down, up, or to the sides.
  3. Hold the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds, then repeat on the other side.

Advice

The neck side stretch and the neck & throat stretch are usually done one after the other.
