Neck & Throat Stretch

Learn how to stretch your neck and throat. Please keep in mind that these stretches should be done gently and not too forcefully. Neck stretches are important in judo, shuai jiao wrestling, and combat sports in general.

Execution

Throat Stretch
Stand upright and place your hands on your lower back for support. Push your chest forward and your shoulders back.

Bend your head backward to stretch the throat. Do not fully relax your neck muscles, and do not let the weight of your head rest on your spine.

Note: Keep your mouth closed while doing this throat stretch.

Neck Stretch
Stand upright and place your hands on top of your head.

Then bend your head forward and let your arms rest gently on your head. Make sure you do not round your back.

This stretch, along with the neck side stretch, is commonly included in martial arts warm-ups.
